The mission of SPLAT! is to inform and help all who are affected by tobacco.

SPLAT! or Students Protesting Lies About Tobacco! is a group of dedicated, hard working young people from around Thurston County. We are passionate about preventing young people from ever trying tobacco, committed to educating all people about the dangers of tobacco use and secondhand smoke and dedicated to encouraging current tobacco users to get help, get quit and free themselves from the addiction. Our mission is to inform and help all who are affected by tobacco. Every year, we reach thousands of young people around Thurston County with our prevention and education activities. Over the last few years we have done ‘street team’ education at several concerts including Kanye West and Jingle Bell Bash 9, and we have delivered hundreds of presentations in schools. We also attend community events such as middle school activity nights where we pass out free goodies with anti-tobacco messages. Most importantly, we have lots of fun teaching people to be more aware of truths and LIES surrounding tobacco.

There are many excellent benefits of being involved in SPLAT! In addition to going to cool concerts, last year SPLAT! members attended a variety of camps, retreats, trainings and forums on topics like leadership, volunteering and engaging the media in your cause. SPLAT! youth have recorded radio public service announcements, addressed city councils and helped provide input for planning state and local youth conferences.  Because all of your time with SPLAT! is on a volunteer basis, community service hours are tracked and certificates listing total volunteer hours can be provided upon request, which can help you meet school’s community service hour requirements! In addition to building skills for your future and helping you meet your graduation requirements, SPLAT! member frequently earn the benefit of receiving fantastic letters of recommendation for their portfolios or college/ job applications.
